There's another model you didn't mention: No advance, but the author gets 50% of income after expenses of initial release are met. The details are a bit more complicated, but this how how Eye Books does their contracts. I paid a Copyright attorney to review it who said this model is getting more popular and it's fair to authors.

Yes that’s one of the hybrid models! Always good to read the small print of what “expenses of initial release” entails.
